Lost in Thailand – An Insider's View of the Land of Smiles

An Anthology

We've all read the travel guides, books and brochures but how many of us ever get a
glimpse into the real social fabric of the countries we visit? Lost in Thailand is a compilation
of fictional stories based on the real experiences of expats who have chosen Thailand as
their home. The reader is invited to intimately experience a rare mix of humor, frustration,
and occasional tragedy that only a collision of cultures can produce. It’s west vs. east as
bewildered foreigners stumble and stammer their way through the seemingly never-ending
maze of bizarre customs and confusing everyday rituals. Lost provides a lens to reveal some
of the unique mysteries behind the compelling smiles. For most, it will be an adventure into a
very strange world indeed.

Stories include:

The Wrong Wardrobe. Trying out your newly learned Thai words in the marketplace can
really get you into big trouble as this humorous narrative shows. In the future maybe you’ll
want to ship everything in from overseas. J

Joggers Jamboree. All hell breaks loose as the Hash Harriers Club chooses the peaceful
northern city of Chiang Mai to hold their bi-annual joggers bash. Looking more like a
costume ball for misfits of the world it’s alcoholic mayhem from start to finish. All in all, a bad
day for Buddhists.
Mo Tejani

Nature’s Call in the Thai Wilds. A toilet emergency in the great outdoors is not the same for
Thais as it is for westerners as this wildly humorous story points out. Still after all the
explanations and ensuing confusion practical wisdom on the part of Thais gets the job done
.

Lost in Love. Love don’t come easy in the west but in Thailand things might be different – for
a price. It’s she-loves-me, she-loves-me-not as a totally naïve American experiences the
most fulfilling, mind blowing love of his life. A question remains. Was it real?

Separate Lives.  Shit happens in Thailand, but maybe not in the ways you expect.  A
wonderful marriage of thirty-two years should be safe from the wiles of a eighteen-year-old
Thai beauty.  Why would a perfectly well-adjusted western man in love with his wife opt for
tiny, uneducated, short-skirted, forever-smiling, insecure, flip-flopping adolescent with
braces on her teeth?  It doesn't make any sense.
